Dalai Lama says his faith in China is shrinking

The Dalai Lama said Sunday that the situation in Tibet is getting worse and he is not optimistic that negotiations with the Chinese government will lead to greater autonomy for the region. The exiled spiritual leader has become increasingly frustrated in his attempt to get guarantees of cultural and religious autonomy for Tibetans. "Now my faith in the Chinese government is becoming thinner, thinner, thinner," the Dalai Lama told reporters during a visit to Japan. According to AFP, he was graphic in his description of how conditions in Tibet are worsening. "Tibetans are being handed down a death sentence. This ancient nation, with an ancient cultural heritage is dying," he said.
