China Telecom reports decline in mobile subscribers
The number of subscribers to China Telecom's newly acquired mobile telephone business fell last month, while rival operator China Mobile continued to gain users. China Telecom said it had 28.4 million mobile users at the end of October, down from 29.08 million when it took over the business at the beginning of the month. The company completed the acquisition of China Unicom's CDMA mobile business in October. China Telecom has bundled mobile and fixed-line services, offering free calls between fixed-line and mobile telephones as well as wireless internet services. Its fixed-line service lost 1.09 million subscribers last month, falling to 211.88 million. Meanwhile, China Mobile last month added 7.19 million subscribers, taking its subscriber base to 443 million.
